The TAU Plus Experience
When navigating conflict, uncertainty, and competing demands where the consequences of a misstep are costly, professionals need more than tools and strategies that depend on thinking first. In the Heat of the Moment, automatic reaction can take over before they can think.
They need evidence-informed, targeted professional development designed specifically for the Heat of the Moment, with data-driven one-on-one workplace implementation that quickly and precisely integrates what they build into the realities of their working environment.
This helps them:
- Maintain composure and professional demeanor when emotions run high
- Communicate clearly when conversations become difficult
- Persist at a task or problem despite interruptions, obstacles, or setbacks
- Voice objections constructively and respond appropriately to feedback when tensions rise
- Fulfill obligations and follow through on commitments when the impulse is to disengage
TAU+™ is designed to address two gaps:
1. The gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it in the heat of difficult moments—a gap experienced by professionals who are already competent in their work and have learned tools and strategies for navigating difficult situations, but find that their automatic reaction can take over before they can put those tools and strategies to use.
2. The gap between building a new capability and making it work where you work quickly and precisely—a gap experienced by professionals who must integrate new capabilities into the unique realities of their working world, where figuring it out through trial and error has consequences they cannot afford.
Build the Reflex
TAU+™ builds an automatic reflex to catch yourself before you react—without having to think about it. This creates a split-second pause that allows you to remain steady in the Heat of the Moment.
Make It Work Where You Work
With the new reflex in place, you learn to:
- Forecast where automatic reaction may put you at risk in your working world.
- Orient to what has changed when the reflex does its job.
- Work with the reflex instead of around it.
So that in the Heat of the Moment, when it’s all on the line, you can:
- use the emotional intelligence skills you already learned
- use conflict-management strategies
- use anger-management tools
- use leadership skills
- use communication strategies
- use breathing techniques
- use mindset and other personal development strategies
Break the Cycle
Participants come away better able to align what they intend to do with what they actually do. With greater steadiness in the Heat of the Moment, they can break recurring cycles, make more intentional choices about how they respond and show up, have greater agency over where their career goes, and take greater pride in how they handle themselves.
More than just targeted professional development with coaching and action planning, TAU+™ offers an integrated experience designed to build a critical automatic reflex for remaining steady in the Heat of the Moment and make it work where you work.
Our Integrated System
TAU+™ delivers the complete SteadyState System™ in two connected phases: first building the new reflex, then making it work in the realities of your working world.
- Phase I: SteadyState Foundations™ offers a deliberately protected development journey that builds the automatic reflex. The heart of this foundational journey is ForestRx™: a research-driven experiential learning method that provides learning by doing, real-time practice navigating uncertainty and the unexpected, and a clear view of automatic reaction patterns as they emerge.
- Phase II: SteadyState at Work™ extends that new reflex into actual workplace conditions through individualized, data-driven implementation and fine-tuning. Participants generate Heat of the Moment data in their own working environments and work with SteadyState Specialists to analyze that data, see what happens in their unique situations, and make targeted adjustments. Through repeated application and feedback, participants gradually build toward independent use and decision-making.
Our Laser Focus
While other professional development teaches tools and strategies that require thinking first, SteadyState Foundations™ develops an automatic reflex that works in the Heat of the Moment before you can think, creating the split-second pause that allows you to use those tools and strategies to adjust and continue through ambiguity, interruptions, and competing demands.
Unlike coaching and action planning, SteadyState at Work™ provides precision implementation and fine-tuning alongside the participant, so they are not relying on trial and error when the consequences of getting it wrong are costly.
What Sets Us Apart
Together, the two phases of the SteadyState System™ provide:
- Learning under real-world conditions, beginning with real-time changing conditions in outdoor settings and continuing into participants’ actual working environments, where the new reflex is put to work and fine-tuned under the conditions where it must perform.
- A deliberately protected development experience, with ultra-small cohorts, no required group sharing or personal disclosure, structured private reflection, and one-on-one workplace implementation that allows personal meaning and working situations to remain personal.
- Discovery before explanation, allowing participants to experience what happens first, observe their own automatic reaction patterns, and build from what they actually experienced.
- Progressive practice and participant indépendance, with changing conditions, real decisions and individual tailoring.
- Development integrated with real work, carrying the new reflex from the experiential learning environment into participants’ actual working conditions, where workplace-generated Heat-of-the-Moment data guides continued practice, adjustments, and decision-making.
TAU+™ includes:
Phase I: SteadyState Foundations™
- Six in-person instructor-led sessions in outdoor settings
- 14 hours of in-person ForestRx™ experiential learning, instruction, and practice
- Ultra-small cohort delivery with up to five participants (no group discussions)
- Structured observation and private reflection during and between sessions
- Real-world application in participants’ working environments between sessions
- Individual tailoring informed by participants’ own Heat-of-the-Moment observations
- Temple Method™ instruction and practice
- A Personal Terrain Map™, developed from individual observations and associations
- Trained SteadyState and safety staff
- Participant portal access and session-readiness guidance
Phase II: SteadyState at Work™
- Six hours of one-on-one remote workplace implementation over six weeks
- Workplace-generated Heat-of-the-Moment data collection and analysis
- Continuity Risk Forecast™
- An assigned SteadyState Calibration Specialist
Professional Continuity Certificate
Conferred upon successful completion of both phases

TAU+™ includes an in-person experience conducted outdoors on natural trails in the Austin, Texas area followed by remote workplace integration. Participants should expect changing terrain, weather, temperature, trail surfaces, elevation, and other conditions inherent to outdoor participation.
Participants are responsible for their own clothing, footwear, required personal equipment, hydration, nutrition, transportation to designated meeting locations, and any travel-related expenses, including airfare, lodging, meals, and local transportation.
Detailed readiness and logistics information is provided to enrolled participants through the participant portal. This includes specific meeting locations, equipment requirements, clothing guidance, weather procedures, and other instructions for their scheduled in-person experience. Because weather and outdoor conditions can change, locations or session logistics may be adjusted when necessary.
Requirements for Program Participation
Before enrollment. Prospective participants complete a Program Readiness Review, a structured conversation to review the program experience and participation requirements, discuss individual needs and considerations, and answer questions before enrollment.
Before in-person sessions. TAU+™ includes required preparation, observation, and readiness activities before the in-person experience. Completing required onboarding and preparation activities is necessary for participation in the in-person intensive and helps ensure participants receive maximum benefit from the program.
During in-person sessions. Participants are expected to attend all scheduled sessions, arrive with required personal equipment, and follow outdoor safety instructions and participation requirements. Specific requirements are communicated with ample time for completion.

Start with a Conversation
Your TAU journey starts with a 25-minute conversation about what brought you here, what you would like to be different, and how SteadyState may be able to help. We’ll also answer your questions and explain what comes next. There’s nothing to prepare.
“I Caught Myself” Stories
I was dealing with a complex, high-charge HR matter and was meeting with legal counsel when, in the intensity of the moment, my vision started to blur and go dark. There was nothing wrong with my eyesight. I had everything they were asking for ready to go, but in that moment, I literally could not see it. Still, I stayed in the meeting and finished as intended.
Once the call was over and the intensity passed, my vision returned. Then, I thought to use my breathing techniques and tools from therapy. They helped calm me down afterward, but in that moment, I wasn’t thinking about breathing. Instead of just shutting down, I felt myself halt that urge. I was able to stay steady, stay present, and get through it.
Senior Leader
I love teaching, but I was going through a difficult time personally while my class size and responsibilities at work were increasing. I started noticing that I was more irritable and having more moments when I felt like I wanted to snap at my students. After SteadyState, I went an entire semester and only snapped at a child twice. I also didn’t call out once. The demands didn’t disappear. Life outside of work didn’t suddenly become easier, but I was able to keep showing up even on the hard days. That meant a lot to me because I wanted my kids to keep getting the teacher I knew myself to be.
K-5 Educator
I was building my own business while also dealing with significant loss and grief in my personal life. The work wasn’t new to me, but building the business around it while everything else was happening was extremely stressful. At the same time, headhunters kept calling with job opportunities. There were moments when I thought, ‘This is too much. I’ll just go back.’
But I caught myself. I was able to stay with it, make it through the moments of dread or doubt or fear and do the next thing that needed to be done. Yes, I launched the business! I didn’t abandon something I wanted to bring into the world just because life became difficult while I was building it.
Business Owner
I was responsible for a multimillion-dollar department, working in an environment many people would describe as “toxic.” There were countless times when I wanted to resign on the spot, send the email, say exactly what I thought, or walk away without a safety net. I had reacted that way before, and it had cost me opportunities.
This time was different. I still got angry. I still wanted to react, but I caught myself before acting on impulse while I was seething. One of the most important things I took from SteadyState was the idea of treating the environment as terrain. I didn’t have to label my boss or my workplace to decide what I was going to do. So I navigated it just like the terrain on the trails. Eventually, I made my next move on my own terms from a place of choice, not overreaction.
